I was trying to use a in- network dentist. Therefore , Dr. Timothy Byrd office was on the list. My husband went in for a cleaning, and they would not do anything to him that day. That spent 1 hour telling me like other people that have been to this dentist, how he needed a deep cleaning and how dangerous the gum disease was. They expalined that it would cost 1250.00 cash on top of our dental coverage, which is very good coverage.(Amertias) I did not understand this at all, but i figured they called insurance company like they stated they did. After the procedure was complete, I got concerned, I think the hygen. scared me so bad when we were in there I couldnt think clearly, due to all the bad things that could happen to my husband if something wasnt done soon. So we signed and agreed to the procedure. I started checking around with dentist not even in our network but in Douglas County. The highest cost of a deep cleaning was 975.00 without insurance. SO now we paid $1250.00 out of pocket and they billed our insurance company also. My husband went to get Copy of his chart and xrays and they stated that it would be $25.00 for that and his records to switch dentist. They stated the 25.00 was for the xrays cost to print, only 3other dentist in douglas county charges for this.I just checked. They also stated we had a $300.00 credit on our account. THey said insurance paid more than they expected. (BUT WAIT) they said they called insurance company the day we were there, REMEMBER . They had not contacted us in over 4 months about any refund ck. I will be reporting this dentist to BBB also along with several other people. DR. WIlliamson did the work and he and that office staff is ruinning the name of timothy byrd.. My attorney will be contacting them next. This is just ridicilous that in this day and time and economy the way it is that a proffessional would do things such as this. The office staff continously said," why are you not happy?" but would not shut up long enough for me to tell her until i said "SHUT UP" and let me tell you. She hung up on me. She was the office mangager, Julie. This is very sad!!!

I was seen for the first time in this office over the summer. I was new to the area and did not know anything about Dr. Byrd's office, just that they seemed to have a nice advertisement in the Chapel Hill News Magazine. I went for a general cleaning and checkup, I was NOT having ANY problems and have seen a dentist regularly all of my life. Before the hygenist would clean my teeth, she took x-rays and she did a visual exam and took some measurements of my gums and then announced that they would not be able to do a cleaning that day, that my gums were in bad shape I needed deep scale planing and antibiotics implanted into my gums. How could this be? I was not having any problems or pains, no other dentist had warned me that my gums were getting bad. Before I knew it, they had a "financial advisor" come to the room and outline all the procedures they wanted to do and how much it was going to cost me and how I could pay for it. They wanted to get started immediately! When I began to question them, the hygenist then came in and gave me a copy of an article that said amalgum fillings were harmful to children and pregnant women.... I am not a child and I had my babies years ago so that danger had passed if there really is any danger. Then, later on, I finally got to see Dr. Byrd and he tells me I need to have my amalgum fillings out because they "conduct electricity"... Oh Please... really! After three hours of this high pressure sales strong-arming, I told them they could not do anything until I spoke with my insurance company and asked that they send a copy of everything they wanted to do to my insurance company for a precertification. When the precertification came back... they wanted to do over $7,000 worth of procedures on me, $2,000 of which was not covered by my insurance. When I saw this, I asked to pick up my records... but not until they charged me $25 for the records that I had already paid for services for...

Today I visited another dental office in Douglasville who told me that all of the issues that Dr. Byrd's office had found were not necessary, that in fact, my teeth were in very good condition and did not need deep scale planing nor antibiotics. I also did not need to have my amalgum fillings changed, nor did I need to have my crown replaced nor did I need to have a mouth guard... all things that Dr. Byrd's office said I needed!

I would advise anyone considering going to this office not to go... they are not looking out for their patients... only their pocketbook... they WILL rip you off!

I have been a patient with this office since 2006. Every time my children had their teeth filled I was charge for the service $215.25, $86.25. My insurance is a capitation plan that pays this dentist every month a fee and fillings are covered 100%. This office charged me for what was covered by my insurance. In 6/2008 they said my child had three cavities and gave me an estimate of $393.00 for me to pay. I did not have the teeth filled and at my child’s last dental appt with a new dentist NO CAVITES! They said I need a deep cleaning and charged my $449.00, dental insurance indicates I owe $334.00 and insurance is questioning how the procedures was preformed with multiple charges for same treatment on the same tooth during this single dental procedure. I will be contacting the BBB concerning this office as well as having an investigation by my dental insurance company. If you have used this dentist I would suggest you reviewing the EOB from your dental insurance and calling them up and asking about what you were charged.
