Smiles on 13th is an interesting place. At first glance, it is a veritable funhouse, with an interesting collection of varied decor that mixes eclectic, macabre, and festive. Below the surface, though, is a doctor that both knows his craft and has a conservative approach to it. My first contact with Dr. Larrick was close to three years ago, and I was referred to him because he is a dental provider in my HMO network. I considered the encounter fairly average at the time, and didn't find anything remarkable. Later, my family moved 40 miles away from Dr. L's office, and we looked for a provider closer to our new home. The "care" that was offered to me on my initial encounter with my new dental office was preposterous. My care plan was 7 pages long, and would cost me nearly $7,000! They wanted to drill, fill, cap, and crown me all the way to the poor house. At the bottom of the list was even a $55 "cancer cell" screening and a $150 electric toothbrush I didn't ask for. Did my teeth really get THAT bad since I last saw Dr. Larrick? Did I really now need 13 fillings? After that ordeal I again changed dental offices, but this time back to Smiles Dentistry. After Dr. Larrick read the care plan from the other dental office, he gave me a clean bill of dental health. As it turns out, not all dentists want to upsell dental work, and not every tooth irregularity needs expensive intervention.

I signed up on their roster here because I needed a simple cleaning. I needed to get x-rays taken because I was a new patient. The next time I came in was supposed to be for a cleaning. I had an appointment at 11:30. I arrived at 11:15 and was told "There was no time for me, but if I waited for Dr. Larrick I may be able to get in" I proceeded to wait an HOUR, he finally showed up at 12:30.asked me if I was a student and took me to a back room and turned on a black and white tv on and said he would be right with me. Another half hour later I told him I could not wait any longer and asked how much longer it would be, he said it would be an ADDITIONAL 30-45 minutes. He is always late, while I was there there were other people waiting for him to show up. The staff is obviously unorganized. DO NOT GO HERE.
