Dr. Kelvin Ma is practicing with an outdated education and knowledge base!!!

Just like people who always remember where/what happened when they received "the call" in the middle of the night, I will forever remember Dr. Kelvin Ma for the rest of my life. Burned in that imagery is how has the worst bedside manner and level of professionalism that I have ever encounted in a physician.

I had been in a severe car accident for which I was receiving treatment the following year for numbess and problems with my spine. He warned me that I would probably have to have spinal surgery. After preparing myself and my family for that, I returned for results of my MRI in order to find out more.

I came alone to the appt and was not prepared for the bomb he laid on me. Instead of needing spinal surgery, within walking in the door, he tole me I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and that I needed to "live life" now because I wouldn't be working in 5 years or walking in 10. Within 10 minutes he shattered my life, gave me no information about the disorder, and instead asked me to go back to the waiting room so that the nurse can set me up for medication.

I just bawled. I thought from his tone that I was going to die and that my life was terminally degenerative. I was quickly whisked back by a nurse as I was upsetting other clients and was given a welcome box for Avonex and told that the drug manufacturer would send out a nurse to train me on it. Then I was sent on my way.

First of all, Dr. Ma HAS NOT kept up with the changing state of treatment for MS. MS is not fatal, it no longer means loss of employment, and only a small percentage end up immobilized. I would not trust him for any future treatment because he proves that he does not keep up with innovations or advancements. He is only going on his original trainings over a quarter of a century ago.

Second, his office could have asked for a loved one to accompany me and he could have at least had a modicum of emapathy or concern. He could have taken some time to explain what MS is. He didn't have to make me feel like he reached the answer to the puzzle so his job was over thus relegating me to his nursing staff.

Third, he could have discussed and offered options for MS treatment. Instead he automatically chose what I would take (which happens to be the lowest/least effective treatment).

Lukily, since my car accident, I know "have records, will travel" and by the grace of God I was able to get into the University of Washington Medical Center's MS Clinic the very next day. THANK GOODNESS. If one is looking for quality neurology please go to UWMC, Swedish, Virginia Mason, or Evergreen...all of which have cutting edge departments.

I didn't make it past the front office! The receptionists were very rude! I was a referred patient and they were barking at me and treated me like something off their shoe. They also lied to me about phone calls that were not even relevant to my care. ANY physician who chooses women like this to represent him is not worth my time or money!
