Derek chose to work in critical care after his experience as a critical care tech at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, which led him to pursue an advanced role as a nurse practitioner. He enjoys helping his patients recover and eventually return to their home. Derek credits his grandma who supported and promoted always doing the right thing. He also credits his mother, who is a registered nurse and served in Korea as an Army nurse. His mother has taught him the value of perseverance and helping others. Derek gets excited about coming to work each day knowing that he will improve the health of his patients. In his free time, he enjoys spending time in the sunshine with his wife and dogs.
