The front office could be a little more helpful when it comes to timeliness, other than that I have been in his care for 5 years and I am satisfied.

Dr. Barrera needs to get rid of his front desk staff! Lupe "P"? in particular is the rudest person in the planet! My mother had an appointment with him on 8/11/16. She told my mother, my daughter and my brother that Dr. Barrera couldn't see her because she had a different doctor on her insurance. My mother has seen Dr. Barrera for at least 20 years. During the time my mom didn't have health insurance, she would pay "private pay". My brother offered to pay cash for this appointment but Lupe took it upon herself to deny my mother access to see the doctor that she had seen for over two decades! My mom's insurance is a PPO, so clearly she could have been allowed to see the doctor. Lupe just decided on her own that she would not allow this. My mother NEEDED to see the doctor since she suffered from high blood pressure. This was a follow up appointment. Surely, they check insurance coverage before the appointment! My mother passed away 13 days later from a stroke! Lupe should NOT be working with patients! She should be working at McDonald's or somewhere else where she won't put people's life in jeopardy! Perhaps if my mom had been allowed to see the doctor on 8/11/16, my mom would still be alive!

It took this doctor 8 years to figure out that I had hypothyroidism, he tested my blood twice since diagnosing me 6 years ago. He NEVER told me to see a specialist. Not a single time. Every time I have visited his office I have gotten sick within 2-3 days, even when I was just in the waiting room with a family friend who was checking on carpal tunnel syndrome (thus I was not going due to illness). In being his patient for 16 years I have actually spoken to him 5 times total, the time he diagnosed me was at a family friend's insistence that he see me instead of an intern. He does not actually care, at all. He didn't explain my condition, he didn't follow up on it, he didn't tell me anything to be concerned for. I had to go see another doctor once due to his wait times and now he is refusing to see me because they requested a COPY of my records. If you value your health don't go. His offices appear clean but they are not wiped down, they do not give out cough masks, there is not usually hand sanitizer available in the waiting room, he will have more time for pharmaceutical reps than patients, and if you are going for him you'll likely never see him. A walk in appointment is 2 hours of waiting, sometimes longer. A scheduled appointment you typically wait about 30-45 minutes after the appointment time to be seen for 10-15 minutes maximum. The scale in his office is always off, and he has acknowledged it stating that a patient always changes it, but then writes the incorrect details on your record anyway. He won't keep up with your conditions either, no advance scheduling for blood work or med re-assessment. He MIGHT remember to see you once a year for a physical. Well, his intern might. Take care of yourself. Find a doctor who is clean, prompt, who recommends a specialist when you need specialized care, who keeps up with your records (and actually knows how long you have been a patient there and what your conditions are), who you do not need to tell your allergies to every single appointment (lest you have latex sensitivity and he forgets not to put on latex gloves), who you don't need to suggest that your blood be tested because it has been YEARS since you were diagnosed with a condition that fluctuates over time, and who wants to be a doctor more than he wants to play golf.
