Susan Laing, MD, is a professor of medicine at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). She holds the John Edward Tyson Distinguished Professorship in Cardiology. She serves as associate chief of the Division of Cardiology, the associate program director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program, and the director of the Echocardiography Laboratories for UTHealth Houston and Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center. Laing’s clinical interests include women’s health, preventive cardiology, and echocardiography. Her research interests include novel ultrasound contrast agents for targeted pharmaceutic delivery, health disparities, and cardiovascular diseases in minority populations. She is a reviewer of several cardiology journals and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention. She is a co-investigator in several grants from the National Institutes of Health, and is an active collaborator in the Cameron County Hispanic Cohort Project in Brownsville, Texas. Laing has authored and co-authored more than 50 publications and book chapters and more than 75 abstracts in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She holds one patent on a novel echogenic vehicle for clinical delivery of plasminogen activator and other fibrin-binding therapeutics to thrombi. She is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and American Society of Echocardiography. She is designated as a certified physician executive.
